FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS

  • What are lash extensions made for, and is it really bad for the environment?
Most lash extensions are made from a plastic polymer material called PBT. When PBT is manufactured, it releases harmful byproducts as well as the material itself being bad for the environment, as it creates plastic waste that cannot be recycled. The most popular alternative for PBT synthetic lashes is mink fur - but mink fur is not cruelty free or vegan, as it is taken from the same Minks that are used to make cruel fur coats. At The Eco Beauty Co. we have carefully sourced a range of biodegradable, plant fibre lashes! Our lashes take around 3 months to break down, in compost conditions making them an environmentally friendly alternative to PBT - and still great for your clients!
  • Is plastic waste in the beauty industry really a problem?
The beauty industry is responsible for producing over 120 BILLION units of plastic packaging waste each year (Forbes, 2022) and whilst that doesn't mean we need to give up the treatments we love - it does mean that as Beauticians, we need to do something to change it. In the UK, over 1.8 billion plastic cotton buds were thrown away each year before the government ban. Many of these ended up in the sea, harming marine life and less directly - our own lives. As industry professionals, it is our responsibility to make conscious choices to change the products we use in our treatments. By swapping plastic for biodegradable materials, we can reduce our impact and keep beauty beautiful!
  • If your lash extensions are biodegradable, does that mean by stock will break down before I use it?
As long as you keep your lash trays dry, you are perfectly fine to hold as much or as little stock as you need! They will not be damaged by the quick curing adhesives used to apply lash extensions either. Our lashes only begin to break down in moist conditions, and even then, they take around 3 months to biodegrade - so your clients don't need to worry about showering, swimming or getting caught in the rain. This makes them perfect for clients who will return for an infill approximately every 2-4 weeks, and great for you as you can continue to run your business whilst protecting the environment.
